St Johns Retirement Village – Somerville- Communal Dining Room: Full Fit Out & Refurbishment
The brief for this dining room, which seats up to 80 residents in a retirement village, was simple: bring it out of the 1990s and firmly into the NOW. We set out to create a fresh, light and welcoming space with a relaxed Hampton’s feel, while adding a touch of timeless sophistication.
The transformation included new furniture and window furnishings, elegant light pendants, carefully selected artwork and decorative mirrors to create the illusion of greater space and light. Fresh wallpaper and paint colours helped to completely lift and brighten the room, while considered décor and finishing touches added warmth, personality and that quintessential Hampton’s charm.
The result was a beautiful dining environment that feels fresh, sophisticated and inviting — a space the residents could genuinely enjoy spending time in.
On reveal day, the newly transformed dining room was officially reopened to the residents with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Seeing their faces light up with excitement, surprise and delight was, quite simply, priceless.
It was a wonderful reminder that interior design is about so much more than furniture, colour and finishes. It is about creating spaces that positively impact people’s everyday lives — and walking away from this project feeling incredibly chuffed that we had achieved exactly that.
Note: Lets be honest the quality of photos are pretty average but back then, it was taken with the latest iPhone .
