A World of Inspiration
Meet Debra
As a child, Debra was fortunate to live in the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), where she experienced island life, spoke French as her second language, and was immersed in a unique blend of cultures and influences.
Her childhood and adult travels across Australia and around the world exposed her to an extraordinary diversity of people, places and environments—from ancient sites and architectural landmarks to climbing a live volcano surrounded by tropical forest. Experiencing different cultures, languages, cuisines and landscapes, from vibrant cities and villages to vast deserts, deepened her understanding of how place shapes the way we live.
These experiences have continued to shape her understanding of colour, texture, culture and the connection between our surroundings and the way we live, sparking a lifelong appreciation for thoughtful design.
Creating Homes of Our Own
Life then took Debra on another great journey—creating homes of her own.Together with her husband, she renovated Melbourne period homes, transformed a Queensland beach shack and designed and built their own homes, all while raising their young family—including the unforgettable challenge of renovating with three children under two.
Those years were filled with excitement, challenges, decisions, dust and plenty of memories. They taught Debra that creating a home isn’t just about beautiful finishes and perfect spaces. It’s about understanding how people live, what they need and how a home should support the life happening within it.
From Passion to Profession
These experiences ignited Debra’s passion for interior design, leading her to study the profession and eventually establish Imagemakers Interior Design in 2005.
What began as a love for creating her own spaces became a career helping others create homes that are thoughtful, functional and uniquely their own.
Over more than 20 years, Debra has helped homeowners navigate renovations, new builds, interior design and styling, bringing together her design expertise with the practical understanding that comes from having lived through the process herself.
A New Chapter
Today, Debra is based on the Mornington Peninsula and continues to bring her down-to-earth nature, extensive design expertise and practical approach to every project.
Now embracing a new chapter of life as an empty nester, she understands more than ever that our homes continue to evolve with us. What works for one stage of life may need to change as our priorities, families and lifestyles change.
This perspective is at the heart of Debra’s approach to design—creating homes that work beautifully for the life you are living now, while thoughtfully considering the years ahead.
