Three weeks. One former eye clinic. One very important first Holiday booking.
This project was a true decorating sprint. With just three weeks to transform a former eye clinic into a welcoming Airbnb for up to 10 guests, every design decision, furniture selection and finishing touch had to happen quickly. There was no luxury of long lead times — everything needed to be sourced, delivered and installed in time for the doors to open.
The former consultation rooms had left each of the four bedrooms with its own vanity and plumbing. Rather than remove them, we embraced this unusual feature and turned it into a practical bonus for an Airbnb designed for larger groups.
Our client also had a collection of existing furniture and artworks they wanted to use. We reinvented these pieces with a fresh, relaxed coastal colour palette, then sourced additional furniture, artwork, décor and soft furnishings that were available now.
And somehow, in just three weeks, it all came together.
What could have been a rushed and disconnected collection of furnishings became a cohesive, comfortable and welcoming coastal retreat. Multiple living areas, a generous dining space, balcony with views towards Arthur’s Seat, and a downstairs rumpus room with pool table and air hockey give families and groups plenty of room to spread out, relax and enjoy time together.
The finished home received wonderful feedback from guests, particularly for the way the unusual features of the former eye clinic had been incorporated into the design. One guest described the bedroom vanities as “a delightful touch”, while others commented on the spaciousness, comfortable gathering spaces and thoughtful amenities.
Three weeks from eye clinic to guest-ready retreat — a great example of what can be achieved with creative thinking, quick decisions and a clear decorating vision.
